History
NCEP was founded on the simple belief that a small group of dedicated people working toward a common goal can make a large impact in the world. Here's how it all began.
Raju Tuladhar, a Nepali teacher who has lived and worked in the heart of Kathmandu all his life, found it very difficult to see so many intelligent and talented children missing out on an education because they were orphaned or simply because their families were too poor to afford the tuition fees. As a teacher, Raju had a unique understanding of the opportunities and prospects that a good education could provide for a child in Kathmandu. He set aside as much as he could spare from his every paycheque, which he dedicated to help pay the school fees of several orphans in the city.
A 2007 visit to Canada proved to be an eye-opening experience. Amazed by the good intentions of the people he met, and recognizing that just CDN$250 would cover the complete costs for a Nepali child to get a quality education at a private school for a year, Raju saw the opportunity to take his education project to a new level. He approached his Canadian friends, Luke Yorkden-Chamberlain and Sandeep Kembhavi, whom he had met a year earlier and hosted at his school when they had traveled to Nepal following their university graduation. Moved by their travel experiences and sharing Raju's belief that raising funds in Canada presented an incredible opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives and futures of the Nepali children, the pair eagerly jumped on-board. Shortly thereafter, NCEP was formed.
From these humble beginnings NCEP has grown to a full operation, running teams in Canada and Nepal, partnering with key non-profit and institutional organizations, and maintaining a vast and diverse support network.
